Postgres Installation Guide

The following steps will install the Postgres and PostGIS Database for the Workstation. The PostGres installer should launch automatically after step 7 of the Workstation installation procedure.

PostGres Installation

  • Click Start

  • Click Next

  • Click Next

  • Click Next
  • Name the service name and the account name as you like. Leave the other fields blank. This screen will come up

  • Click Next

  • The installer informs you that a password has been generated. Be sure to write down the account name and password for your own administration! Future upgrade may require it as well.
  • Click Next

  • In the next screen select the UTF-8 encoding and enter the password. Other defaults don't need to be changed. Please remember your Postgres user name and password as this will be used later on in the installation.
  • Click Next
  • If you encounter this error as shown below, please refer to the FAQ for the solution

  • Click Next

  • Click Finish


PostGIS Installation

PostGIS is now included as part of the new PostgreSQL StackBuilder architecture. The latest version can be installed by going to Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL 8.3 -> Application Stack Builder.

  • Select your PostgreSQL installation from the list and then click "Next". The latest version of PostGIS will appear under the "Spatial Extensions" category.

  • Click Next

  • Check on PostGIS 1.3.3 for PostgreSQLv8.3.3 Click Next

  • Select any mirror site. Click Next.

  • Click I Agree

  • Click Finish, you should now be returned to the next screen of the Workstation installation.
