Appendix 2 - Metadata field descriptions
From Fenix
- In order to ensure the successful management and exchange of data in the Workstation, it is necessary to specify certain information (metadata) about the datasets/resources when they are uploaded and/or saved. Please see below for a list of definitions of Metadata fields.
| Data Type | the pre-defined Workstation format according to which your dataset has been formatted. (If you do not know which dataset type your dataset belongs to and/or have not pre-formatted your dataset please refer to Appendix 1) or "DBFeatureLayer" if metadata is associated to a feature layer |
| Title | name by which dataset/resource is known |
| Abstract | a brief description of the content of the dataset/resource(s) |
| Descriptive Keywords | any keywords relevant to the content of the dataset/resource |
| Data Category | main theme of the dataset/resource |
| Data Provider | the organization producing the dataset/resource |
| Data Source | the organization(s) producing the raw data from which the dataset/resource is compiled |
| Point of Contact | contact details (i.e. organization, e-mail address and/or phone no.) of person(s) and organizations(s) associated with the dataset/resource |
| Geographic Area | the country/region which the dataset/resource refers to |
| Start Date | the first day of the time period covered by the dataset/resource |
| End Date | the last day of the time period covered by the dataset/resource |
| Date Last Modified | the date when the dataset/resource was last changed/updated |
| Periodicity of Data | interval of time at which data is produced (i.e. daily, weekly, decadal, monthly, yearly or when needed) |
| Sharing Policy | the level of security assigned to the dataset/resource by the resource owner (i.e. public, private or shared) |
| Reference Geographic Unit | the type of geographic features (e.g. cities, regions, roads, etc.) that the dataset/resource refers to |
| Feature Code Set | the set containing the feature code (e.g. gaul0) specified in the dataset (see Appendix 1) or on which the layer is based |
| Join Field | |
| Precision | the number of decimal digits used to express the dataset values |
